Deputy CM DK ShivaKumar expresses his disgrace over Kannada Film Industry actors.
Bengaluru, March 4: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed his disappointment and frustration over the lack of support from the film industry for the Mekedatu project protest. He said that the industry should always stand for the state’s land, language, and water issues. However, in this case, he feels the film industry did not extend proper support.
After his statement, opposition parties criticized him, and now he has once again made strong remarks about the film industry.
DK Shivakumar’s Response to Criticism .
Speaking at Vidhana Soudha, DK Shivakumar defended his statement, saying:
- “Let them criticize me. I know how much I have helped them. Those who took my help also know it. I said it for the good of the state. Our land, water, and language must be protected.”
He also pointed out that the International Film Festival was organized for the film industry’s benefit.
- “If they don’t promote their own industry, how can we do it for them day and night?”
Nagaraj Bhargava’s Claim About No Invitation
Reacting to film director TS Nagabharana’s claim that the industry was not invited, DK Shivakumar admitted that an invitation might not have been sent but maintained that the event was still for the film industry’s benefit.
- “Maybe they were not invited. I don’t know whose mistake it was. But this event was for them. I expected criticism, but they should have at least given a warning before attacking me.”
- “I don’t mind criticism. If we made a mistake, we will correct it. If they made a mistake, they should correct it too. I can live without cinema, but if the industry wants to grow, it needs the government and the people.”
BBMP’s Property Tax Notice to Government Offices
On the issue of BBMP sending notices to government offices for pending property tax, Shivakumar supported the move:
- “Yes, they need to collect money. BBMP is following the law. Even government offices must pay some bills like electricity bills. This issue has been there for the last 20-30 years.”
When asked if Vidhana Soudha and Raj Bhavan would also be included in tax payments, he confirmed:
- “Yes, everyone must pay taxes. The pending property tax for government buildings is more than ₹150 crore. We will collect it. There should be no exemptions.”
Vidhana Soudha History Photo Exhibition
DK Shivakumar also inaugurated a photo exhibition showcasing the history of Vidhana Soudha. He quoted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, saying:
- “Those who forget history cannot create history.”
The exhibition includes rare photos of:
- The Karnataka Assembly held 150 years ago in Mysore
- Jawaharlal Nehru’s foundation stone ceremony for Vidhana Soudha
He praised Speaker UT Khader for making efforts to preserve and highlight Karnataka’s political history.
