Territorial Army Activated as India Prepares for Nationwide Deployment Till 2028

On Friday, the Defence Ministry ordered 14 out of 32 Territorial Army battalions to be deployed nationwide, assigning them duties through 2028.

This move isn’t just routine — it’s a clear message. India’s Territorial Army, acting as its secondary force, is being mobilized for “increased alertness and strategic support,” sources told NDTV.

Since the Pahalgam terror attack shook the country, military tensions between India and Pakistan have only escalated. The Defence Ministry’s order — issued by the Department of Military Affairs — suggests India is preparing for more than just a border skirmish. It’s preparing for whatever it takes.

As per Stockholm’s Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India holds about 14.75 lakh active troops, plus 16 lakh in paramilitary ranks. . Pakistan, in comparison, has less than seven lakh active troops and around 2.9 lakh in paramilitary ranks.

And it’s not just about the boots on the ground. India also leads when it comes to military hardware — with more fighter jets, helicopters, armoured vehicles, and heavy artillery. Basically, if it comes to a showdown, India isn’t going to be caught off guard — not this time.
Over the past 72 hours, India has already shown how serious it is. It successfully repelled two waves of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan. Not a single enemy jet or drone made it through — thanks to India’s cutting-edge air defence system.

And let me tell you — this isn’t just any system. We’re talking about an integrated counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS), along with powerful interceptor platforms like the Russian-made S-400 Triumf and India’s own Akash missiles. It hasn’t just proven effective — it has completely crushed the enemy’s aerial ambitions.

India didn’t stop at defence. It struck back with full force under Operation Sindoor, a tri-services military operation — and the first of its kind since the 1971 war with Pakistan. This was a precision strike on nine terror camps located inside Pakistan and Pak-occupied Kashmir.

And yes — these were the same terror hubs responsible for launching deadly attacks, including the Pulwama bombing in 2019
On Thursday, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri laid out what he called undeniable proof of Pakistan’s ongoing support for terrorist networks. In a detailed press briefing, he explained how Pakistan hasn’t stopped fuelling conflict — and how it can no longer hide behind diplomatic denials.
