Finally, some good news for women who depend on buses for daily travel! The Karnataka government is making a bigger effort to keep the ‘Shakti’ free bus travel scheme running strong. So far, a mind-blowing 226.53 crore passenger trips have been taken by women since the scheme started.
The 226.53 crore is the total number of passenger trips taken by women under the Shakti scheme, NOT the number of unique women who traveled.
It means women have used Karnataka’s free bus service over 226 crore times since the scheme started!
Last year, the government spent ₹5,015 crore, and this year, they’re (increasing) the budget to ₹5,300 crore for 2025-26. This means more free travel, more buses, and hopefully, fewer overcrowded rides! But will the buses actually improve, or will people still struggle with delays and packed seats? That’s the real question!
But wait—there’s more happening in the transport sector. Some changes are exciting, while others might leave you wondering if they will actually work. Let’s dive in.
Majestic Bus Stand is Getting a Much-Needed Makeover!
If you’ve been to Bengaluru’s Majestic bus stand, you know how total mess is it and how packed it gets. It’s hot, crowded, and honestly, exhausting to deal with. But that’s about to change!
₹51,300 Crore rupees kept separate for Guarantee Schemes : Karnataka Budget 2025 Series (Part 4)
Under the ‘Project Majestic’ redevelopment plan (rebuilding project), the government plans to completely transform it into a modern transport hub with better bus station with shops, offices, and better facilities.
Sounds great, right? But here’s the catch—it’s being done under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP – government + private companies work together). That usually means fancy infrastructure but also expensive rents and shops that common people might not afford. So, will it truly benefit the daily traveler, or just turn into another commercial space? We’ll have to wait and see!

Driving Tests? No More Bribes, No More Confusion!
If you’ve ever taken a driving test in Karnataka, you know how frustrating it can be—random rules, long wait times, and sometimes, even bribes (illegal payments) just to pass.
5,267 New Job posts for Teachers : Karnataka Budget 2025 Series (Part 5)
But things are about to change (hopefully for the better)!
- 42 automated (computer-controlled) test tracks will be completed, meaning no more human interference (no unfair results, no bribes!).
- New tracks are coming to Honnavar, Chamarajanagar, and Chitradurga with ₹20 crore set aside for construction.
- Another ₹12 crore will be used to improve existing tracks.
This means no more “setting” (cheating), no more clueless (confusing) test procedures—just fair and accurate results!
RTO Offices Go Digital – But Will It Really Be Hassle-Free?
₹1,051 Crore rupees, Big Wins for Farmers! Karnataka Budget 2025 Series (Part 2)
We all know how painful (annoying and slow) it is to visit an RTO office—long lines, missing files, and officers who take their own sweet time to process anything. But finally, the government is taking a step in the right direction!
- ₹25 crore will be spent to digitize (make everything online) records in five big RTO offices first.
- No more standing in lines (hopefully), no more lost documents, and no more waiting for weeks to get your vehicle papers.
Sounds amazing, right? But will it actually work smoothly (without problems), or will people still be told, “Server down, come back later”? Only time will tell!
AI Cameras Are Watching – No More Breaking Traffic Rules!
₹10 Lakh rupees for Athletes, 20 Lakh Jobs Coming : Karnataka Budget 2025 Series (Part 1 )
If you’re someone who loves jumping red lights or over-speeding, beware (watch out)! AI-powered (smart computer-based) cameras are coming to track down (catch) rule-breakers.
- These cameras will be placed in 60 locations across major cities like Davanagere, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Chitradurga, Haveri, Hospet, Ballari, Vijayapura, and Dakshina Kannada.
- ₹50 crore is being spent to make roads safer and traffic smoother.
For law-abiding (rule-following) drivers, this is great! But for those who think they can outrun (escape from) traffic cops, your days are numbered (time is up)!
Final Thoughts – A Budget That’s Full of Promises, But Will It Deliver?
This budget looks great on paper—free bus travel continues, RTO offices go digital, Majestic gets a facelift, and traffic rules get stricter. But will these promises turn into real changes, or will it just be another case of “good idea, bad execution ”?
One thing’s for sure—bus passengers, especially women, have something to cheer about (feel happy for)! But for the rest, we’ll just have to wait and see if Karnataka’s transport system actually improves or remains the same old struggle.
