India to Make 30M iPhones a Year – Foxconn’s Big Move Explained

So, there’s some seriously exciting news coming in from the tech world — and especially if you’re from India, you might want to pay attention. Foxconn, the company that makes iPhones for Apple, is planning to double its iPhone production in India by next year. Basically, it means that India is no longer just a big iPhone market — it’s quickly becoming a big maker of iPhones too. And that’s kinda huge.

So what’s really happening?

Well, Foxconn produced around 12 million iPhones in India in 2024. But in 2025, they’re aiming to make between 25 to 30 million iPhones here. That’s more than double. Yep, you heard that right — they’re literally gearing up to make double the number of iPhones in just one year.

And guess what? Most of these phones are coming out of Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu, two cities that are low-key becoming the heart of Apple’s global manufacturing.

But why is Apple doing this?

Apple’s been kinda rethinking its game plan lately. They’ve been way too dependent on China for years, and now they’re trying to branch out. This move is part of what experts call the “China+1” strategy — basically, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

And India, well, it’s showing up big time. With better infrastructure, skilled labor, and some solid support from the government (like removing import duties on 28 important mobile parts), India is proving it can handle Apple-level production.

Wait, so what’s this Project Elephant?

That’s Foxconn’s new ₹25,000 crore facility in Bengaluru. They’ve already done some trial runs and guess what? Once it’s fully up and running, it could churn out 20 million smartphones every year. Basically, it means this might be one of the biggest factories Foxconn has ever built — second only to its main plant in China. That’s wild.

And there’s drama too…

Of course, it’s not all smooth sailing. Reports say China has been delaying shipments of special equipment to India and even stopping Chinese staff from rotating into the Indian plants. Some say it’s their way of slowing down Apple’s India dream. Well, I think it can only make India work harder to prove it’s ready to take the lead.

$32 million worth of machines? That’s some serious gear.

Foxconn just imported over ₹276 crore ($32 million) worth of equipment for the Apple operations in India. That’s a LOT of machines. And this isn’t the first time — back in October 2024, they bought ₹267 crore worth of gear too. Basically, it means they’re not playing around anymore — this expansion is the real deal.

And there’s more — Apple AirPods Made in India?

Yes, you read that right. From April 2025, Apple will start making AirPods right here in Hyderabad. So, it’s not just iPhones anymore — India will now be making two major Apple products.

So what does all this mean for us?

Let’s break it down:

  • India is making a big name in global tech manufacturing.
  • More iPhones made here could lead to better prices and faster launches.
  • Thousands of jobs are being created — Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu plant alone employs 50,000 people!
  • And yeah, if India keeps this up, by 2027, one in every four iPhones in the world could be Made in India. How cool is that?
